Desktop Version, Mac: PDF Export doesn't work. It wants to write to my HD root Folder, but I have no writing access there. Is there a way to change the (default) destination folder for exported PDFs?
Just making sure this is about Shot Designer and not Causality, Shot Designer defaults to creating a folder in Documents / Shot Designer Exports, where the export is placed in a folder named after the time and date of the export. It does not attempt to write to the root of the hard drive, you may be reading the message incorrectly.
Shot Designer does need access to the Documents folder in order to function at all, since this is also where the scenes go, and it's the Documents / Shot Designer Scenes folder that's synced across devices.
So you'll need to enable Documents folder access for Shot Designer.
