I'm struggling with your usage of "beat" not in how it relates to a story, but in how a "beat" seems to appear under characters in research. SOme of you examples in the documentation imply that there are beats under characters. But a beat is an event not a character trait. So could you clarify why I see beats under characters in your examples? What is a beat when it's under a character as opposed to when it is a plot point. I mean of course a character has to DO something within a story. But then you also make statements about character traits being tags. I don't see a clear delineation between beats and character traits. Traits cause characters to do things (actions) when confronted with a conflict which results in an action which is an event (beat) in a story. Im looking for a more rigorous approach to delineate these concepts.

A beat is an event. It doesn't matter if it's a plot event or an event where a character evolves. It's simply a thing that happens, the minimum unit of plot.
Tags are for labeling concepts that weave through many events, and yes, a character trait is often such a thing. So if you have a character trait that he has an anger problem, that's one tag called "His anger problem", and this tag is attached to e.g. 10 events where this is expressed.
But tags are anything, they're simply something that comes back more than once. It could be a theme, e.g. "Robot learns human values" in Terminator 2. Or it can be an objective, like "Stealing a getaway car", or a running gag like "Not that there's anything wrong with that" from Seinfeld. Functionally, these are all the same.
